Our Protest of the BBB's Rating Practices

Our "Rating" from the BBB is "A-". Why? Because we won't pay $500?
We also NOW REFUSE to Display the BBB "Reliability" Logo
Consider these facts Why below and see if You agree-

The BBB's original focus was to provide truthful business history to consumers. We feel they now are purposely providing misleading information in order to continue to collect their very high fees but who can we report them to?? :(

WHY does NONE of BBB's "consumer" pages nor their "standards" page (1,000+ words) advise that ONLY paying BBB members show as "accredited"?

Here is the BBB's explanation to Consumers--

We offer free reports on businesses that provide background, licensing, consumer experience and other information such as governmental actions. These free reports are available for businesses that have – and have not - been evaluated against our standards for ethical marketplace behavior. Before you buy, check out the business.

So WHAT would You ASSUME a "Not Accredited" BBB Rating Means?
Why not be upfront that this means not "paying" members? It gets worse-

1) WHY do they require such high fees for a website logo & Accredited status when a business earns its own good reputation? This costs nearly $500 yearly!

2) WHY when we paid, did they adjust their report's date and verbage to where it definitely implied our business was NOT meeting their standards before paying?

3) WHY do they NOW say we are NOT an accredited business just because we no longer pay their high fees? (and not clarify "accredited" vs "member")

4) AND WHY do they rate a business lower if they don't pay? (see notes below)

Accredited means "meets standards" & BBB says it evaluates. Misleading?
We (& others) meet their standards (see Here) whether a BBB member or not.

------------------------------------------------------
Notes on Our Experience with the BBB:

1) Although we have 7+ years of excellent history, their report implied that we were "meeting their standards" ONLY from the date we started paying their fee?? We complained repeatedly about this as we believe it looked bad on us and was misleading to consumers but to no avail and so we stopped paying their fee. They now give us an "A-" rating because of this! Really?

2) The single complaint we had was from a Canada customer who gave a wrong address and so the art was returned as "undeliverable". They then gave a totally different address to resend but refused to pay the return shipping cost so we cancelled the order & credited the art. The BBB verified this and said it would NOT appear on our record since they approved of this decision, but it still does.

------------------------------------------------------
Our Decision:
We feel the BBBs is misleading consumers & we refuse to now support them

Due to the points above, as of July 2009 we are protesting the BBB business practices and so their "website reliability logo" will no longer appear on our site. Being a small family ministry, we can use this $500 better elsewhere for our Lord! We hope you agree.
